Eyelet Top

Earlier this summer, I saw a gal wearing a cute sleeveless eyelet top at work, and I asked her if she had made it, but she said it was from Amazon. I haven’t purchased clothes from there, and am not looking to start, but figured I could make my own (I was hoping she had, so she could tell me the pattern and where she’d purchased the lace…).

I got lucky and this bordered  fabric reappeared at my workplace (it had some out a while back, and I think this piece was a return), so I didn’t have to worry about finding a wide eyelet lace to gel it with, but I wasn’t successful at finding multiple trims to accent it with (it has shiny thread, which most trims don’t). But I found one I could use for the neckline and sleeves, and decided to use embroidery thread with a wing needle and fancy stitch to embellish it. The fabric is so thin and delicate I used wash away stabilizer to keep the stitching even.

I used a favorite blouse pattern (Simplicity) and left out the darts and shortened it quite a bit. I thought about lining it, but a friend told me to just wear a white or nude tank underneath, which sounded easier.

Outside of the fancy stitching, which took some extra time, this shirt came together quite quickly, especially since it didn’t need a hem. I’ll probably get more use out of it next year, but I’m really glad I wasn’t successful able to create my own version of this!
