Holiday Skirt

Suede looks have been popular this fall and winter, but this skirt is actually flannel! I saw a picture of a plaid wrap skirt with one side pleated, and I really wanted to try it in this crepe textured flannel.

I used McCalls 8479 as my base, and changed things from there. I needed the pleats to be in the front and back, which the pattern doesn’t have, so I cut two of the piece the pattern uses for the front pleat (if I did it again, I would add 6” to it, as it would have been nice to have a few more pleats, but this did work). I made my pleats narrower than the pattern, since that was what I’m inspiration showed. I didn’t want an actual wrap for the back, as the flannel sticks to itself, so I cut the back piece off at an angle and sewed it to the pleated piece. The front does have the wrap piece, and I angled that as well.

I put in a side zipper instead of a front one with a fly like the pattern had. The pattern doesn’t call for lining, but I did, mostly to keep it from clinging to my legs.

I love how it turned out, and I think I’ll be wearing it for Christmas and Mew Year’s this year!
