Flouncy Skirt

  Another self-drafted skirt! I feel like I could have done a summer series this year with the skirts I made all being out of straight strips of fabric with elastic waists and based on measurements. Maybe I still will…  Anyway, this skirt took a top layer that was 8.5” tall by 4” bigger than my hips (this one needs a little extra to have room for the elastic casing). There are then two layers of ruffles, 7” tall by 24” and one lining layer, 6” wide by 4” bigger than my hips.  To make, sew each piece together along the short edge to make it into a circle (there will be four circles when done). Then hem the two ruffle pieces 1/2” up (I used a twin needle to do this). Next run two rows of gathering stitches along the tops of the ruffle pieces. Pull the gathered stitches to bring the pieces down to the same circumference as the lining piece. Right sides together, sew one ruffle to the bottom edge of the lining.
