Five Favorites - Spring Edition III
1. Quilted Spring Jacket
I loved the quilted jacket I made last fall, but I felt the color was too dark to transition into the warmer months, so I decided it was time to make a lighter version. The fabric I used was actually in stock at my workplace, but I waited too long, lost my chance, and had to order it from Etsy. It’s another Robert Kaufman Mammoth flannel with a crepe finish, and I think it’s the perfect fabric and color combination to wear all spring!
I didn’t want to make the exact same jacket twice, so I cut the corners a little differently on this one, and put the ruffle facing the inside of the jacket instead. I think it looks a little more like a 1950/60s Channel jacket, but I like that look too, and I’m really glad to have this spring option!
2. Bias Tape Maker
I actually have owned a couple of these for years (curtesy of my mom), but they are the narrower sizes, and I decided for the above jacket I needed to invest in a larger one. I’ve made my own bias tape before, and had pretty good success with eyeballing it, but it was time consuming and time to get the real deal. It definitely saves time and headache, so I suspect I’ll be using it frequently in the future!
3. Posh Hobnobs
I was intrigued by an Instagram reel featuring these, rounded up a couple recipes to try, tweaked them a little, and this might be my new favorite cookie!
8 TBL butter, softened
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 TBL honey
2/3 cup oatmeal
2/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
Chocolate Chips (milk, semisweet, bittersweet, whatever your favorite is! Just be sure to have high quality ones).
Best butter and sugar together, add honey. Mix in dry ingredients (not chocolate chips). Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and line a baking tray with parchment paper
Roll into 18 -24 balls, and bake for 9 minutes. Pull tray from oven, and on one side of each cookie, place several chocolate chips (I used Giardelli, and I used 2-3 chips with their larger milk or bittersweet chips, but about 7 for the smaller semisweet ones). Pop back into the oven for 30 seconds to a minute, and then spread the softened chips around with the back of a spoon. Allow to cool, and then enjoy!
4. Button Down Shirts
I’ve been seeing some really cute and “better than basic” button down shirts on social media this spring, and I have a bunch of pictures saved as inspiration for future sewing projects. I’ve seen ruffles, pleats, hidden plackets (might have to dust off some skills), eyelet, lace trim… I might need several new shirts!
5. Blue
Blue has long been my favorite color (followed closely by light pink), and I noticed I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately, with several projects coming up in various shades of it. I try to keep a lid how many items I make in blue, because having too many items in the same color limits outfit choices, but I just keep finding good fabrics in blue, so I guess I’ll worry about branching out later!
