White and Black Pajamas & Screwballs
It was time for a new set of pajamas, so I turned to my trusty New Look Pattern #6142. I love how this pattern makes up so quickly and fits really well. I standardly use a double needle to sew most of it, which gives it really good stretch and finishes off the hems and straps nicely. I was initially going to do the coloring the opposite, but couldn’t find a black cotton knit I liked the feel of as much as I did this white one, so I figured I’d just reverse my idea. Plus, the lighter color will help me feel more like spring despite it being only February….
Anyone else a fan of screwball comedies? I’ve discovered people either love or hate them, and I’m definitely in the “love” category! In case you need something to watch for Valentine’s Day, here are five of my favorites:
I Love You Again - Myrna Loy and William Powell star in this story about a stuffy man on the brink of a divorce who gets a bonk on the head and remembers he’s actually a con man. Chaos ensues (my favorite part is the Boy Scouts scene!) while he tries to simultaneously pull off a con and win back his wife.
Adam’s Rib - Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy play a husband and wife lawyers who go head-to-heading court in a battle of the sexes. Classic!
Ball of Fire - Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyk are a stodgy professor who is part of a team trying to write an encyclopedia and a nightclub singer on the run from police. She offers to help him with the “latest slang” section so he can finish up, and of course they end up falling for each other…
It Happened One Night - Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert are a newspaper writer willing to help a runaway heiress get to her new husband in exchange for an exclusive story. Luckily, she figures out her husband is only after her money, so the “Walls of Jericho” can topple for the right man.
Libeled Lady - Myrna Loy, William Powell, Spencer Tracy and Jean Harlow star in this story about a woman who sues a newspaper accusing her of an affair, and the mixups surrounding the attempt to make her guilty via a former reporter and the editor’s longtime fiancé. The fly fishing scene is epic!
