Silhouette Denim Jacket

You’ve probably noticed that I most commonly sew from “the big four” patterns, or draft something of my own, but after my frustrations last fall with how my denim jacket from Simplicity 8845 fit, a customer suggested I try this pattern from a company called Silhouette. I ordered it, plus another one that looked good, and found some clearance fabric to use for my first time, just in case it didn’t fit right.

I did carefully read the pattern before beginning, since I was new to this brand. They work with finished garment measurements instead of actual body measurements, and use 3/8” seams. I wanted to flat fell my seams, so I went up a size in width to have enough room for that (they have you serge your seams and then stitch them down). I should have gone up in length too, since I’m long through the torso, but I like how this is a more cropped look too.

The directions were good, I liked that they offered cup sizes, and that all sizes were included in the pattern. I added welted pockets, an upper pocket flap, and button details on the bottom band, borrowing from another pattern since this one didn’t have them.

I think this jacket fits very well, much better than my last jean jacket attempt, and I would definitely make it again, as well as trying more patterns from this company.
