Cozy Set & Holiday Movie Favorites
I made this cozy grey set (the fabric is sooo soft!) for snuggling in this winter when I get home from work, and I just love it. I initially made the jacket, and then realized that the fabric was so comfortable that I had to have pants from it too. I used New look pattern #6142 (you might recognize it from this post), but I took the collar from another pattern, since I don’t need a hood for indoors. Keep in mind that it runs a little big since it’s a unisex pattern…
Anyway, here are a few of my favorite holiday movies…
Miracle on 34th Street (original 1947 version in black and white) - Maybe it’s because I work in retail, but not only is this a great Christmas movie, it is the ultimate retail movie! The moral is that if you help someone out, even if it seems contrary to what you should be doing to get ahead, they will remember your kindness and repay the favor tenfold. I’m not a huge Santa Claus person (I was terrified of him growing up - my parents gave up after two years of trying to have me sit by him!), but this movie is probably my very favorite Christmas movie!
Arthur Christmas - A feel-good animated story about Santa’s family working through their own insecurities to find where they truly belong in the grand scheme of Christmas while remembering that is important not to leave anyone behind. Plenty of funny moments that will keep you laughing!
The Royal Ballet’s Nutcracker 2001 (Great Performances) - This version is narrated by Julie Andrews and has my all-time favorite choreography, along with incredibly graceful dancers. I have probably watched the “Trepak” a few hundred times over the years I like it so much!
New Year’s Eve - Not technically a Christmas movie, but still a holiday, and very festive, showing how people’s lives come together over the dropping of the ball at midnight (plus all the work that it takes to make NYE in NYC spectacular). Clever storylines that come together in surprising ways.
A Biltmore Christmas - This movie was SO cute! I think that even if you aren’t usually a Hallmark movie fan, you’ll enjoy this one. Hallmark Channel movies can be a bit hit and miss, but this one had cute one-liners, beautiful costumes, and a great story line all set at the beautiful hotel. Did I mention that it is a time travel story line with a 1940s setting, and references to all the classic stars (I am a huge old movie buff!)? Highly recommended!
What are some of your favorite holiday movies?
